L4U Enterprise Circulation gets a Facelift

The L4U Enterprise Circulation screen has undergone a major facelift, with a new layout and several new features like the New Freedom Dashboard. All information can easily be displayed on a 1024 x768 resolution monitor, and there is now much less clicking involved in circulating items to your Patrons.

Freedom Circulation

Patron and Item information are now shown side by side removing the need for scrolling.

Freedom Dashboard

The Freedom Dashboard allows for one click switching between Circulation Modes; Auto, Incoming Only, Outgoing Only and Status Check.

Toggled Searching - The Search Button at the top of the screen toggles the viewing and searching for Patrons or Items so you can search easily without scrolling or jumping to results.

Freedom Circulation Searches

One Click Reserves - Simply search for the Item you wish to reserve and click its' corresponding Reserve button.

Freedom Circulation Renewals

One Click Renewals - Within the Item Out information box there is a new "Renew Item" button allowing for easy renewals of individual items out to a particular Patron

Dear L4U Guru:
Is it possible to circulate items in and out during inventory?

Inventory Newby

Dear Inventory Newby:
Yes, it is possible to conduct Inventory without interrupting the daily activities of the library. Once Inventory has been activated in Preferences, the process can begin in the Circulation screen. It is important to remember that the user must still toggle between Inventory and regular Circulation while in the Circulation screen.

  1. Functions > Circulation
  2. Click Inventory - The Inventory Control screen will appear
  3. Click Activate Inventory
  4. An Alert screen appears, click OK
Inventory in Circulation

Inventory is now ready to proceed through Circulation. The lower left hand corner of the Circulation screen will display a message stating, You can now take Inventory. Turn this off when you're ready to restore normal circulation. The message Added to Inventory will appear in the Item Status box for each item entered.

Note: Items checked In during Inventory will be assigned a status of "In Inventory". This status change does not inhibit circulation and can be globally changed back to "In" after the Inventory process is complete.

Yours truly,
L4U Guru

Announcing Al Christie,
L4U's new Business Development Manager

Al Christie

We are pleased to welcome Al Christie to the L4U family in the new position of Business Development Manager. In this role, Al is responsible for positioning L4U in the marketplace to maximize Sales and Service Revenue and for supporting the Sales process. Al brings over 20 years of experience in K-12 Education S/W development, sales and services.

Al's previous experience was entirely with IBM Canada. His first 10 years were spent in various Finance & Accounting positions. He claims he grew bored with debits and credits all day so he made a career switch to IBM's K-12 Education unit as a network support tech where he got to work with 0s and 1s all day instead.

Al held various roles in IBM's K-12 Education unit over his 20 years including Support & Services manager, S/W Development manager and Brand manager. A strong customer focus and a passion for K-12 Education enabled Al to build IBM's K-12 unit's Service business from $0 to $4M annually. As a Senior K-12 IT Architect, Al also consulted with school boards across the country and Caribbean assisting them in strategic IT Infrastructure design and minimizing the Total Cost of K-12 IT Ownership.

Al, with his wife, two teenage daughters, two cats and a dog came to the Okanagan a couple of years ago eventually settling in Summerland. Moving to the Okanagan with its healthy outdoor lifestyle had been a dream of the entire family for a decade. Al enjoys wine, tennis, hiking, fishing, investing and more wine!
